Pizza Bonanza!

First let me say, Hazel is still in the hospital waiting for her White Blood Cell counts to go up.  As soon as they do, we can go home for a few days, then will head back to the hospital for Round #5 of Chemo.  So I will keep you updated as soon as we know when we can go home (we are so ready!).

Since we have been here for quite a while, we try to pass the time by doing fun and silly things for our precious 2-year old.  One of these things happened to be my Mother and I putting a sign up in the window with medical tape reading: "SEND PIZZA RM 4112".  The nurses, doctors, other children and we all had a great time with it and thought it was just something to brighten someone's day.  Here are a few photos of us doing it:

This sign was up for several days without even a single phone call asking to send up a pizza (which we completely expected!).  Then, on Saturday, it all changed.  Aaron had left the hospital, while my father-in-law stayed with Hazel, to go home and spend some time with me and our other children.  I would return later that night.  While at home, we began hearing news that several pizza's were being delivered to the hospital.  After only a few short hours, we were told that someone had taken a picture on the street of our sign, had posted it to Reddit.com and it had reached #1!!  Then, someone ended up posting a link to our BlogFacebook, and Donation Page, which then all went bananas!  Hazel woke up from her nap to the smell of pizza and was so excited to chow down!  Several other children and nurses came into the room, with music playing, and had themselves a wonderful Pizza Party.  As of yesterday evening, there was more than 20 boxes delivered and more was coming!  We had such a great time!  However, due to the sheer number of pizzas and inquiries from the media, the hospital has asked that the pizza deliveries end and thank everyone for their support. But I ask the community to please continue supporting Hazel and other children like her through making donations to our funds or to Childhood Cancer Research.
We have been absolutely humbled and surprised by the outpouring of love and support from the online community and can only hope and pray that this brings awareness to Neuroblastoma and the Childhood Cancer Community.  Awareness and funding is severely lacking, and to help get better treatments and outcomes for our children, we need all the support we can get! I truly felt that God used this wonderful day to help lift, not only our families', but everyone on the 4th floor's spirits.  We all need a little hope up here.  Here are a few pictures of the joy that was spread yesterday through the kindness of strangers:

    1. To the parents of this child !! I dont want to give you any false hope !! But there is a CURE for all known CANCERS !!
It was developed in the early 1990's at the: Albert Einstein
School Of Medicine by William Lyman and Steven Calle ( not sure if i spelled stevens last name correct ? ) And later on brought back to life by Dr Robert Beck . You can find it under the section Suppressed medical breaktrough's Lol !! Well, I hate to break it to you, but TREATING disease is far far far more lucrative than CURING it. Look at the system closely. The Pharmaceutical Industry is extraordinarily powerful, and tied to every aspect you can imagine; media, government/politicians, banks, corporations, etc. Only 5 - that's FIVE corporations own 90+% of the media. They are NOT looking out for us - they are suppressing information to maintain their power. This is PARADIGM SHIFTING stuff here. But look deeper, you'll see. Pleaseeee !! for your kid sake try this. COLLOIDAL SILVER !!! ( this the strongest medicine known to man!!! And believe it or not also the cure for AIDS !! It will boost her immune system. afer this treatment she will have whats called superblood ( completely parisite free )But i wont cure the cancer. But this will !!!! The treatment is called BLOOD ELECTROLYSIS a immune system restoration. 50 to 100 micro amp at 3.92 hertz. also known as the schumann resonance . in combination with the silver colloid to prevent secondary infections , the cancer will be cured in 3 weeks !!! Now i know this sounds unbelievable but do some research on this subject you got nothing to lose !!! Remember a cured patient is a lost customer !! ( And forgive my spelling english is not my native launguage ) And tell others !!!

    2. That makes TOTAL sense.
In my house we always treat ourselves with natural things. and we know MANY things can be cured, but the industry never tells ANYTHING about it, they don't wanna lose money. If you think deep: we only see medicines on the TV, never natural ones.

And well, we use colloidal silver here at home. Actually my father MAKES it, it's really simple. And helps a lot.

I hope it can help you eventualy. Beautiful baby girl.

      Nonsense. Utter, nonsense.

1, "Cancer" as a general term covering several diseases with have different causes and symptoms, with different issues to address. Claiming there is a cure for "cancer" is like there is a cure for "violence".

2, If there were a cure for even one specific cancer, providing it would be the most lucrative breakthrough in medical history.

Clearly you have no common sense. Have you also no sense of shame?

  4. Hi, I came from Reddit and hope the recent pizzas festival brightened peoples day! Any thoughts on what party to have while having to go back for #5 chemotherapy? This is meant in no disrespect as I could only imagine how bad 1 round of chemo would be let alone 5 :(

But was thinking maybe, Hazel could write on the window for a pudding party? Or icecream? Maybe a flash mob crew could jump on board and provide some entertainment from the street?

Best of luck, I'll donate what I can, and I'll try not to forget about you Hazel and your wonderful (ever growing) family.

  5. I'd just like to say, usually I troll the internet because I am disgusted with myself, my life, and all of my failures. The original reddit post and this followup have put a smile on my face, makes me wonder why I'm such an insufferable pr$ck when kids like yours are in much more dire and dangerous situations than I am. So while I don't have any money to send you any pizzas, do know that this old internet troll is sending you good vibes for your kids cancer battle. Thanks for making me smile.

Lauren and family, thank you for restoring my faith that we as a nation have some hope; we're not a lost cause and there are good people who do good things and the smile on precious Hazel's little face warmed my heart. I hold you all in my heart and send Hazel and the other children their much love and healing thoughts. Thank you for sharing; I want to hug your little girl! I will try to remember to come back and donate when my situation stabilizes.

  34. This made me smile when I saw it. My son, Christopher was in the hospital and on a no food order. At first, he was ok with it because he wasn't conscious, but after he woke up, not eating started to wear thin. He started complaining that he wanted a pizza. He still wasn't allowed to eat because of the no food order, and pizza wouldn't have been a good first thing to eat anyway. So finally he started saying to everyone "How hard is it to pick up the damn phone and order a damn pizza! The number for Dominos is in the book, just get me a pizza!" All of the nurses found it amusing, as did we. When he got home we made sure to get him some pizza. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 10 from brain cancer. Thank you for making me smile and remember just how plucky my little guy was, despite his condition. Much love to your whole family. I hope for a good outcome for Hazel and all of you <3

  41. Instead of supplying these children with pizza (so called food)(highly acidic***,cancer thrives in a acidic body) , I would be supplying them with alkaline water, fresh fruits, and graviola leaf. Oh, I forgot the Allopathic Doctors here in the Matrix are against homeopathic cures.

On top of that, these Allopathic Doctors have this poor little girl going through chemo.... (lets add more acidity and kill all her cells??? and please dont tell me they are giving her gatorade? is that gatorade??? with a ph of 2.85!

WAKE UP DOCTORS!!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!!

getting on a fruit, melons and berries diet would do this child wonders!

    4. Fruit, melon, and berries are all acidic though.

Fortunately, this girl's parents are smart enough to know that, while modern medicine is not a sure thing, it definitely does better at curing disease than quackery.

A girl in my high school class tried to manage her cancer with diet and healthy changes as directed by a very famous naturopath. Or rather, her parents made her try. She begged for real medical treatment until she died 2 months later.

  77. My son inlaw just sent me a link to this story and what a way to start my day! Brought a smile to my face but most importantly, so thrilled that it brought a smile to all of your faces.

You see, we know all too well what life inpatient is all about. Our daughter Zoey spent 8 months inpatient at CHLA undergoing treatment for AML. Life behind those doors and in those hallways can be so draining and monotonous. Any break from the routine is so welcomed.

We started a blanket project when she was released from treatment 4 years ago and would live to get one to Hazel. You can email me at witchypoo4@msn.com or follow my name to our blog and leave me a message with your address if you are comfortable with that. Zoeys older sister is a nurse there in the NICCU also and she could bring one by as well.

Sending prayers that home wil come before long. And that Hazel will continue to plow through her protocol and soon be on the other side of this disease. Zoey has been out of treatment for 4 years now. She is healthy and happy 6 year old now and with all our hearts, we wish that all these warrior children can quickly get back to their days of living life carefree and away, far away from those hospital walls. One of our very best buddies from our time at CHLA has been out of treatment 3 years from stage 4 neuroblastoma and she is a spunky, feisty, and joyfilled nearly 9 year old today. Our prayers are that Hazel will be following suit in no time!

I will keep Hazel in my thoughts and check back on her progress.

If you ever want to talk to another NB parent, I am here :)

  80. Just read your story on AOL's homepage. The sweetest and cutest pizza party ever! I know nothing about hospitals and staying long term so its refreshing to see that the kids are allowed to eat things like PIZZA! Something small, but obviously puts a smile on their faces. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers and I hope for a full recovery for your Hazelnut(best nickname ever).

  81. Just saw this on CNN's news and just thought this was such a wonderful thing for the Dominos Pizza to do for these young children that are fighting the battle cancer or any life threatening diseases. Prayer to all the young children and for the parents and caregivers. May God Bless you all.

  88. This story touched my heart! In 1991, my nephew (11 years old) at the time was diagnosed with a neuroblastoma on his brain stem. He underwent surgery that removed 90% of the tumor but left him unable to walk or speak. He went through 2 years of chemo and radiation to try and eradicate the cancerous tumor that remained. It a was a long and arduous road for my sister, her husband and their other 2 children as well as the little patient. It was full of ups and downs and sometimes really, really hard. To sum this up, he is 33 years old now. He is married to a sweet girl and holds down a full time job. It took years to get to this point but he is there and that is all that matters. I just wanted you to hear this story.

  90. Saw you on CNN. My son loves REDDIT! Prayers to you and your family. I followed the link for a donation - hoping you get a lot of support of every kind through your story. We just lost mom to pancreatic cancer and know the struggles of the daily fight. Hers was a quick blessing, though, on the other end of life. Here's hoping Hazel fights the good fight for a long time!!!

  93. Dear Lauren and family,
I am new to your blog...just found it today re: the pizza party article posted on several sites online. I have a deep love for children (partly due to my own struggles in childhood but mostly because that is just how God made me!) and also I have a heart for helping others whenever and however I am called to serve.
I read thru your blog and ironically, one of your older posts echos precisely what I was thinking. You talked in that post about sometimes feeling "mommy guilt" over not being a specific type of mother but came to the realization that God created you as the type of mother you NEED to be in order to be equipped for this battle. I so firmly BELIEVE that and I have seen it affirmed in other families whose children are diagnosed with a serious illness. God does not make mistakes as you know. Your sweet "Hazelnut" has parents that were perfectly orchestrated to meet HER needs and those of your other precious children!
She is adorable, that sweet girl of yours! I am praying for her and for all of you and I firmly BELIEVE that this little girl will one day have an awesome testimony of how God's power manifested in her to KICK CANCER'S BUTT and how her family was beside her every step of the way!!
Warm hugs and many prayers, Lori

  96. Hazel, you made an old and jaded man cry. You remind of the good of children and the innocence too. I had a real bad day today, but you reminded me that with a little hope, pizza, friends, love of strangers and family to take time and smile and be thankful. Next time I eat some pizza I will think of you! You will be in my prayers and thoughts.

  97. Hi. I was so moved by the "pizza" story. I love kids and it pains me seeing them with illness most esp cancer. Surely, you'll be in my prayers.

Also, You can monetize this blog. Put google adsense on this. The amount may be little but I think it can help you with the bills.

  104. My husband forwarded me this article. I lost my cousin (26) to Lymphoma last year and have a special place in my heart for all of those who suffer from cancer. I am so happy that something so small, a request for pizza, brought happiness to Hazelnut and attention to her illness. I was able to find the donation page and donate in memory of Sarah. Blessings to you and your entire sweet family as you handle this ordeal with grace.

I really liked your post about God granting you peace to no longer judge the mother you are. I think pintrest, facebook, and other things apply too much pressure and that comparison does rob you of joy. Very wise...thank you for sharing your family's story through this blog.
